Alfredo Dinis

Alfredo Dinis ( * 1917, † July 4, 1945 in Bucelas; underground name Alex) was a Portuguese communist and resistance fighter.

Career

Dinis was metal workers in the shipyard H. Parry & Son in Cacilhas. At the age of 19 he joined the Communist Youth. In August 1938 he was arrested by the secret police PIDE. After 19 months of detention, he was appointed to the management of the Partido Comunista Português Committee of the (PCP ) in Almada. In 1943 he was elected to the Central Committee of the Party.

Much he contributed to the organization of strikes and demonstrations that paralyzed the south bank of the Tagus River and the capital city of Lisbon in November 1942, July / August 1943 and May 1944, and were brutally suppressed by the police of the Estado Novo.

On July 4, 1945, he was shot on the way to a secret meeting with Joaquim António Dias Lourenço Campino and of the PIDE policemen José Gonçalves on a street in Bucelas.
