Alfredo Poveda

Alfredo Ernesto Poveda Burbano ( born January 24, 1926 in Pillaro, Tungurahua; † 7 June 1990 in Miami) was an Ecuadorian military, to 10 August 1979 was dictator of the Republic of Ecuador on 11 January 1976.

Poveda has completed his military training in the U.S., Argentina and Brazil and was a naval commander and military attaché of the Navy in Spain, France, Great Britain and Germany. After the coup that brought him to power, he was appointed admiral.

After the deposition Guillermo Rodríguez Lara Poveda took over the leadership of the military junta, which was next to him from General Guillermo Duran Arcentales and General Luis LEORO Franco. During his tenure, the adoption of the 1978 Constitution, which in 1979 allowed the return to democracy falls.
