Algemene Vereniging Radio Omroep

The Algemene Vereniging Radio Omroep ( AVRO; German General Broadcasting Association ) is a Dutch broadcasting company and the oldest radio stations in the Netherlands. The original political orientation of the AVRO was liberal.

On 8 July 1923, the Hilversumsche Draadlooze Omroep was founded, but they soon changed their name to it Algemeene Nederlandsche Omroep Radio. The ANRO merged on December 28, 1927 with the Nederlandsche Omroep Vereeniging Vereeniging Radio Omroep for Algemeene ( AVRO ). Director at that time was William Vogt. In the first years only radio programs were broadcast, as the Netherlands on October 2, 1951 officially introduced the television, AVRO was one of the first four TV provider.

The AVRO is responsible for the Dutch posts in the Junior Euro Song Contest. In 2007, she hosted the JESC in Rotterdam, 2012 in Amsterdam.

The AVRO sponsored a 1938 material discharged chess tournament in the world peak, which was named after her as AVRO tournament.
