Alger County, Michigan

Alger County is a county located in the U.S. state of Michigan. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Munising.

Geography

The County is located in the north of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, adjacent to Lake Superior, one of the Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​13,077 square kilometers, of which 10,700 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Luce County, Schoolcraft County, Delta County and Marquette County.

History

Alger County was formed in 1885 from parts of Schoolcraft County. It was named for Russell A. Alger, a Michigan governor and U.S. senator.
