Algerian Communist Party

The Algerian Communist Party ( Parti Communiste French Algerian, abbreviation PCA) was a communist party in Algeria.

The Secretary-General of the PCA was Bachir Hadj Ali.

The PCA came out in 1920 as an extension of the French Communist Party ( PCF) and was in 1936 finally own party.

The PCA was opposed, under the influence of the Communist Party of France, against the colonial oppression of Algeria, but was also the Algerian national liberation struggle against distant. In addition, the PCF Algeria viewed as too immature for national independence.

In 1955 the party was banned by the French authorities in French North Africa. The party oriented themselves towards the national liberation movement.

The PCA was given legal status in 1962, was but two years later, again banned and disbanded in 1964. The Algerian Communists regrouped later under the Party of Socialist Avant-garde ( PAGS ) new.
