Algimantas Valantinas

Algimatas Valantinas ( born October 29, 1961 in Buknaičiai, Rajon Mažeikiai, Lithuania) is a Lithuanian judge, former Attorney General of Lithuania (2005-2010 ).

Life

Algimatas Valantinas studied law in Vilnius. In 1985 he graduated from the Law Faculty of Vilnius University as a graduate lawyer. From 1985 to 1988 he worked as a prosecutor and an assistant investigator at the prosecutor Kaišiadorys. Subsequently, he served for two years of military service in the Soviet Army. After that, he was until 1991 Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office Širvintos, temporarily also chief prosecutor.

From 1991 to 1994 Valantinas worked as Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of the Rayon Jonava and then five years until 1999 he was a judge and also Chairman of the District Court Jonava. Thereafter he served until 2000 as a judge in the District Court of Vilnius and was delegated the same time the director of the Departaments of the Judiciary at the Ministry of Justice of Lithuania. After five years in the Second District Court of Vilnius, he became of 2 March 2005 to 20 October 2005, its chairman.

On 20 October 2005 he was appointed Attorney General by President Valdas Adamkus. Since the beginning of the activity of the priorities was the promotion and creation of communication links with society and media. Representatives have been appointed for public relations in many prosecutors' offices of many Lithuanian districts. From media his political views are considered liberal. His successor as of February 2010 was Raimondas Petrauskas (acting).

Since April 2010 Valantinas is a judge of the 2nd District Court of Vilnius City.
