Algoma District
The Algoma District is an administrative district in the north of the Canadian province of Ontario. Capital is Sault Ste. Marie. The population is 115 870 (2011), the area of 48810.68 km ², which corresponds to a population density of 2.4 inhabitants per km ².
The Algoma District forms a part of the coast of Lake Superior, the highest of the Great Lakes. The district was founded in 1858 and extended west to the border of Minnesota. With the establishment of other districts became smaller the area of the district of Thunder Bay District 1871 District 1888 Manitoulin, Sudbury District Timiskaming District in 1894 and 1912.
