Algund

Lagundo (Italian Lagundo ) is a town with 4971 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in South Tyrol. It is immediately adjacent to Merano and lies at the foot of the Texel Group Nature Park.

In the forest fraction is the same brewery ( Brauerei Forst AG ), one of the largest in Italy.

The municipal center is Mühlbach has developed on the left bank of the Adige.

Economically significant are mainly tourism and fruit and wine growing.

Around 160 km of hiking trails meander around Lagundo, the most famous promenade is the Algunder irrigation channel. Worth seeing are the many churches and chapels, monastery Maria Steinach and the castle forest.

History

In Algund several Figurenmenhire were found from the Copper Age in the 1930s, the originals are in the Museum of Archaeology, Bolzano. Replicas are on display in front of the tourist office.

In Roman times, the Via Claudia Augusta ran through Algund. The bridgehead on the bank of the Adige in 2011 was covered with a glass construction.

To 1241 donated Adelheit, daughter of Count Albert of Tyrol, the monastery Maria Steinach.

In 1525 came the uprising of the Tyrolean under Michael Gaismair, which was Algund to the combat zone.

Lagundo is easily accessible by the highway Merano - Bolzano ( MeBo ) and on the country roads of Merano, Marling or the Töll.

By 1950, the local railway Lana Meran Algund association with the city of Merano. Since 2005, the Vinschgau Railway ( Mals- Meran ) serves the city with a stop.

The highest Algunder fraction Aschbach ( 1360 m above sea level ) is reached via a mountain road (12 km) and over the cable car Aschbach Rabland.

The fraction Vellau (900 m above sea level ) is reached except via road access via a chair lift. From there, a basket lift leads to Leiteralm.
