Ali Fergani

Ali Fergani (Arabic علي فرقاني; born September 21, 1952 in Onnaing, France ) is a former Algerian football player and coach. Since 2013 he trained CA Batna.

Career

As a player

Association

Ali Fergani began his career in 1969 with NA Hussein Dey, where for ten years he played until 1979. Then he moved to JE Tizi Ouzou and played there until 1987. During these eight years succeeded the club five times to win the championship. In 1987 he ended his active career as a professional footballer.

National

Fergani graduated from 1973-1986 a total of 68 caps for the Algerian national football team, where he succeeded, however, no goal. At the 1980 Summer Olympics, he played four games for his country. He also came six times in qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 1982 in Spain to use and managed to qualify for the finals with Algeria, however, was after three games in the group stage concluded.

In 1981 he finished third in the election African Footballer of the year. The winner was his compatriot Lakhdar Belloumi.

As a coach

After 1987, he finished his career at JE Tizi Ouzou, he returned to the 1989/90 season back there. The club was just renamed Jeunesse Sportive Kabylie. At the same time, he got together with Abdelhamid Kermali as coach of the Algerian national team. His greatest achievement was winning the African Cup of Nations 1990. Until 1992 he held the position. In 1994 a one-year commitment to the MC Oran, until he again became coach of the Algerian national team in 1995. But only a year later, he had to give back the office after a defeat against Kenya. From 1996 to 1998 he coached the team Olympique de Beja. After a brief Did Game in 1999 with Avenir Sportif de La Marsa, he returned later that year to de Beja. In 2000 he moved to the U.S. Monstir, where for a year he oversaw the team. In 2001 he went to the Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis and he left the club in the same year. After two years break, he took a coaching job in 2003 for the first time and although the club Athlétique Bizertin, who also plays in Tunisia. In 2004 and 2005 he trained for the third time the national team of Algeria.

From 10 October 2011 to the end of 2012 he coached the Algerian A ' National Team (ie only Algerians from their own league).

On January 5, 2013, was introduced as coach of the Algerian Association CA Batna. In the following months, however, he could not save them from relegation to the second league the club.

His son Aghiles Fergani is currently also active for the club as a player.
