Ali Habib Mahmud

Ali Habib Mahmud ( علي حبيب محمود; * January 1, 1939 in Tartu ) is a Syrian general and politician.

Life

Mahmoud grew up in Tartus and graduated in 1959 at a young age of the Syrian army. He participated in the October War against Israel in 1973 and was partially involved in the invasion of Lebanon in 1982. From 3 June 2009 to August 8, 2011 as the successor of Hasan Mahmud was Tourkmani Defense Minister of Syria. In 2011 the U.S. government imposed a travel ban against him. His successor as defense minister was Dawoud Rajiha.

According to Kamal al - Labwani as spokesman for the Syrian National Coalition Mahmoud sat in Turkey from 2013.
