Ali Mazaheri

Ali Mazaheri ( born March 31, 1982 in Kermanshah ) (Persian علی مظاهری ) is an Iranian amateur boxer in the heavyweight division. The 1.95 m wide Mazaheri boxing for the Jahan Foulad Gharb in Kermanshah and won in 2008 and 2012, the Iranian championships.

His biggest successes were the gold medal at the 15th Asian Games 2006 in Doha, as well as the gold medal at the 24th Asian Games in 2007 in Ulaanbaatar. In addition, he won a bronze medal at the 25th Asian Games in Zhuhai in 2009 and the 16th Asian Games 2010 in Guangzhou.

At the 14th World Championships in 2007 in Chicago, he lost in the first round against Milorad Gajovic from Serbia. Also at the 29th Summer Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he lost in the first fight against the eventual Olympic champion Rachim Tschachkijew.

He qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where he also served at the opening ceremony as the flag bearer of the Iranian delegation. In his first fight he met the Cuban José Larduet and was booked highly controversial three times and finally disqualified. Mazaheri and his support team, as they went on a protest, whereupon the Weltboxverband AIBA accepted the goods. After analyzing the video recordings of the German referee Frank Scharmach was provisionally suspended. Since the Iranian team but it apparently failed to timely formally lodge an appeal against the outcome, it stayed with the victory of the Cuban.

  • August 2010: 2nd place in the heavyweight division at the 3rd Akhmat - Khadzhi Kadyrov Memorial in Grozny
