Ali Pasha of Gusinje

Ali Pasha Gucia (Albanian Ali Pashe Gucia, Montenegrin Ali Paša Gusinjski, Bosnian: Ali Paša Šabanagić, Serbian Али - паша Гусињски; * 1828 in Guci (now Gusinje ) in the Ottoman Empire (present-day Montenegro), † 1885 in the canyon of Rugova ), actually Ali " Hasan " Shabanagaj, was an Albanian military leader and one of the leaders of the League of Prizeren. He was the leader of the Albanian troops in the Battle of Nokšić.

Life

Ali Pasha was born the son of Hasan Shabanagaj in the village of Guci in 1828. He graduated from the military school in Istanbul. Ali Pasha was a member of the League of Prizeren and fought against the Montenegrin troops to prevent Montenegro gets the sovereignty of the majority Albanian areas around Plav and Gusinje which had been promised during the Congress of Berlin.

Turkish troops captured him in sequence. Thanks a general amnesty, he was released and was Mütesarrıf ( ruler of a sanjak ) of Peja. In 1885 he was murdered by the Turks in the Rugova Gorge.

Descendants

The descendants of Ali Pasha Gucia today are assimilated linguistically and Šabanagić call themselves ( from Albanian Shabanagaj ).
