Ali Ryerson

Ali Ryerson ( born October 21, 1952 in New York City ) is an American jazz flautist.

Ryerson is the daughter of guitarist Art Ryerson, who worked as a studio musician in New York and Others with Charlie Parker. Through jam sessions her father, she came early with musicians such as Milt Hinton, Barry Galbraith or Lou Stone in contact. At eight years old she began playing the flute and appeared as young people in the jazz-rock band of their brothers Art, Rich and John. She had a classical music education at the Hartt College, University of Hartford, where she focused on jazz and in 1979 earned a bachelor. Throughout her career, she played both in the field of jazz and classical music, such as the Monterey Bay Symphony and Luciano Pavarotti. In 1980 she moved to Montréal and appeared in a duo in hotels. She spent three years in Belgium as a freelance musician, where she played with musicians such as Steve Houben and Charles Loos, originated with those two albums. Upon her return to New York, she worked as a studio musician and taught in workshops.
