Ali Treki

Ali Abdussalam Treki ( Triki ) (* 1938 in Misrata ) is a former libyischer diplomat who was 1976-1982 and again from 1984 to 1986 Minister of Foreign Affairs of his country as well as 2009 President of the 64th General Assembly of the United Nations.

Life

After schooling Treki first completed a study of the science of history at the University of Benghazi and graduated with a Bachelor. A postgraduate degree in Political History at the University of Toulouse, he finished with a doctorate.

Following Treki joined the Foreign Service and served as Envoy 1970-1973, first director of the Political Administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then Director of the Department for Africa, before he was from 1974 to 1976 deputy assistant secretary of state for political affairs. He was in these years as a member and leader of several delegations to Libya at summits and conferences in Africa, such as the Organisation for African Unity ( OAU ) and of the emerging African Union.

1977 Treki was first Foreign Minister of Libya and held this post until his replacement by Abd al - Ati al - Ubayyidi in 1982. Moreover, he was head of the Libyan Delagetion at summits and meetings of the Arab League and from 1976 to 1977 Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Arab League. During this time he also participated in numerous meetings of the Organization of the Islamic Conference and was for a time Chairman of the Council of Ministers. In addition, he was in 1979 head of the Libyan delegation to the Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Havana.

After retiring from the government in 1982 for the first time Treki Permanent Representative of Libya to the United Nations in New York City and this function held until 1984. During this time, he was also well -Chairman of the Main Committee of decolonization fourth General Assembly of the United Nations as well as representatives of Libya to the UN Human Rights Commission in 1982 as well as representatives of Imre Hollai Vice President of the 37th UN General Assembly.

Subsequently, he served between 1986 and 1990 again as Libya's Permanent Representative to the United Nations before he was after 1991-1994 Permanent Representative to the Arab League in Cairo. During the civil war in Libya Treki was appointed to the United Nations on 4 March 2011 by the government of Muammar al - Gaddafi again as Permanent Representative.
