Ali Zeidan

Ali Seidan or Sidan (Arabic علي زيدان, ʿ Alī DMG Zidan; * 1950) is a Libyan politician and former diplomat. From October 2012 to March 2014 he was the prime minister of the country.

Life

Seidan was in India to 1980 Libyan ambassador. By 2011, he was then a member of the opposition National Front for the Salvation of Libya ( NFSL ) of Mohammed Yusef el- Mega Rief, and he sat from Geneva for the observation of human rights in Libya. Since 2012 he is member of the General National Congress.

At the suggestion of the National Alliance forces of Mahmud Jibril Seidan was elected on October 14, 2012 by the General National Congress with 93 votes out of 200 to the Prime Minister. He won against the candidate of the Muslim Brotherhood party related to Justice and construction. His predecessor, Mustafa Abu Schagur of the National Front had previously been brought down by a vote of no confidence. On 31 October 2012 his government was approved by the National Congress.

In the morning hours of October 10 2013 Seidan was kidnapped by a Libyan militia from the Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli. The motive is still unclear. Some reports go from a connection with the capture of Abu Anas al - Liby, a suspected mastermind of the terrorist attacks on the United States embassies in Dar es Salaam and Nairobi, on 5 October in Tripoli by American forces. Seidan had met hours before his abduction with the family of al - Liby. The Attorney General's office has denied the allegation of the kidnappers to have a warrant for Seidan. Hours after his abduction Seidan was released.

Once it was the self-proclaimed " autonomous government " of the city Ajdabiya managed to phase out a loaded with crude oil ship out of the harbor al Sidra to its charge to the state oil company to sell over, although Seidan had pledged to prevent this, he was on March 11, 2014 issued by the Libyan Parliament by vote of no confidence. For interim successor Defense Minister Abdullah Thenni was appointed. Immediately after the vote of no confidence an arrest warrant had been issued against Seidan. Nevertheless, he succeeded in going to Europe. Seidan is accused of corruption and mismanagement in connection with illegal oil sales to the separatists.
