Alibag

Alibag ( Marathi: अलिबाग, Alibag; also Alibagh ) has about 20,000 inhabitants, is a small coastal town and seaport in the state of Maharashtra in the district of Raigad in India, 30 km south of Mumbai located on the coast of the Arabian Sea, with some beautiful, wide sandy beaches, but also rocky beaches, about 30 km above Chaul, according to Murud Janjira and extend.

History

Alibag was created in the 18th century by Shivaji as a fort to counter the growing influence of the Siddis of Janjira, the expanding Portuguese and British.

Accessibility
