Background

The film was staged in 1931 as a low -budget production in the Metropolitan Studios in Fort Lee, New Jersey with amateur actors. It was created in anticipation of the 100th anniversary of the author Lewis Carroll in the following year, which caused an Alice - fever both in North America and in Europe. In the United States they tried to make money with numerous films, songs and puppetry shows about Alice in Wonderland. For example, Betty Boop was the cartoon Betty in Blunderland to Wonderland, just like Eva Le Gallienne in 1932 in the Broadway show "Alice in Wonderland", which was one of the hits this year. Irving Berlin composed a Alice - in-Wonderland - song while Paramount with great effort, an adaptation of Alice in Wonderland with the cast Charlotte Henry, WC Fields, Cary Grant and Gary Cooper produced. In 1932, Alice Liddell finally came, the inspiration for the "Alice" the original book, and now an elderly lady to America to take part in the anniversary celebrations.

Due to this interest, the film premiered Theater in New York at the prestigious Warner.
