Alicia Terzian

Alicia Terzian ( born July 1, 1934 in Córdoba) is an Argentine composer, conductor and musicologist Armenian descent.

Life

Terzian was at the National Conservatory of Buenos Aires pupil of Alberto Ginastera, Gilardo Gilardi, Roberto García Morillo and Floro Ugarte. In 1962 she went to Europe, where she studied medieval Armenian church music, conducting with Mariano Drago and finally electronic music.

She taught, inter alia, at the National Conservatory and at the Municipal Conservatory of Buenos Aires, at the Universidad Nacional de La Plata and at the Art Institute of Teatro Colon. In 1968, she founded the Fundación Música Contemporánea de Encuentros Internacionales ( EIMC ) whose festival developed into a forum of contemporary Latin American music. In 1979, she founded the Grupo Encuentros, with the Latin music she performs in concerts on all five continents.

In addition, Terzian is, inter alia, active in the Music Council of UNESCO, is the Vice President of the International Women's Council of UNESCO, Vice President of the Argentine Society of Composers, General Secretary of the Argentine Society for Musicology, founder of the Latin American Council of Music and a member of the jury at numerous music competitions.
