Aliecer Urrutia

Aliecer Urrutia ( born September 22, 1974 in Placetas, Villa Clara ) is a retired Cuban triple jumper.

Urrutia was the mid-1990s to the top three jumpers in the world. In June 1996 he improved his personal best in Seville at 17.70 meters.

A week before the World Indoor Championships he improved at a sports meeting in Sindelfingen, the world indoor record in the triple jump at 17.83 meters and traveled as a top favorite in Paris. At the World Championships he had to but then his fellow countryman Yoel García close defeat and won the silver medal. Five months later he was able to confirm with the bronze medal at the World Championships in Athens this success.

After the 2002 season Urrutia ended his active career. His world record distance was set in March 2004 by the Swede Christian Olsson.
