Alistair Cees Overeem ( born May 17, 1980 in Hounslow, London, England) is a Dutch MMA fighter and kickboxer. He is the reigning world champion in the heavyweight division of MMA league Strikeforce and currently holds the title of K -1 World Grand Prix.

Career

In 1999 Overeem his career. Of his 44 fights he could win 32, more than half by task. In kickboxing, he won six of his ten pro fights.

December 31, 2008 Overeem played in a long time a fight under K- 1 rules at Dynamite. His opponent was Badr Hari, one of the strongest K- 1 fighter and thus the clear favorite for this fight. However, Overeem could greatly surprised and struck Hari after just two minutes through KO. After that fight, Overeem began to start a K-1 career alongside MMA.

In the K -1 World Grand Prix 2009 in Yokohame Overeem played a super match against the reigning K-1 champion Remy Bonjasky, but lost convincingly on points.

On 26 September 2009, Overeem could qualify for the first K -1 World Grand Prix 2009, after he clearly defeated the veteran Peter Aerts on points.

In the World Grand Prix 2009 Overeem won the first fight against Ewerton Teixeira by KO in the first round. In the second match of the tournament, Overeem scored again on his rival Badr Hari. Hari picked Overeem to very offensive. Overeem lost the fight in the first round after he was down for the count twice by the referee. Overeem later stated in an interview that the second precipitation was not a real precipitation, as he had only just lost his balance.

On October 2, 2010, Overeem could qualify for the World Grand Prix 2010 by defeating Ben Edwards. He beat Edwards in the first round 3 times down.

At the World Grand Prix 2010 Overeem started as a clear favorite for the title in the tournament. The first fight against Tyrone Spong he could decide for themselves on points. In the second fight he met Gokhan Saki, whom he defeated at the end of the first round by a strong kick to the injured right arm in advance. In the finals of the tournament, he met for the second time to Peter Aerts in the semi-final was surprisingly prevail against the title holder Semmy Schilt. Aerts, however, was very much drawn by the fight with Schilt and Overeem could easily knock Aerts after just one minute and thus win the tournament. For Overeem to win the first MMA fighter who succeeded the K -1 World Grand Prix.

December 31, 2010 Overeem at Dynamite denied another fight, his opponent was the American Todd Duffee. The fight was held under MMA rules. Also in this fight Overeem was able to continue its course. He knocked out Todd Duffee out after 19 seconds.

Again, a year later, on 31 December 2011, he won his first fight in the UFC against Brock Lesnar. His next scheduled UFC fight should be a world champion title fight against reigning UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos. Due to excessive testosterone levels, which were found in Overeem in March 2012 during a routine check, he was replaced by Frank Mir.

Alistair Overeem is the younger brother of Valentijn Overeem, who is also an MMA fighter.
