Reception

Allmusic critic Thomas Erlewine wrote:

"Alive in America is pleasant, but it does not provide new insight into Steely Dan as a musician or Becker and Fagen as a songwriter. It's a fun while it lasts, but leaves no lasting memories. "

In Rolling Stone, the album was very critically assessed and received only two out of five stars. Although the reunion tour was successful in the years 1993/94, the album was immaculate sounding and void. The highly polished kerberized versions of ten gems from the 1970s ( and a superfluous piece of Becker's current solo album ), it would hardly be able, once again going on show in which the subversive influence of the band had been lying on pop and jazz.
