Alix, Duchess of Brittany

Alix of Thouars (* 1201, † November 21, 1221 ) was Duchess of Brittany, Viscountess of Thouars in its own right from 1213 to 1221.

She was the elder daughter of the reigning Duke ( duc baillistre ) Guy of Thouars († 1213) and the Duchess Constance of Brittany ( also Duchess in its own right ), daughter of Duke Conan IV

She was betrothed to Henri dAvaugour, but in 1213 she was married by a decision of the French king Philip II with Peter Mauclerc out of the house - France Dreux.

Alix and Peter had three children:

  • John I of Red (* 1217, † 1286), 1237 Duke of Brittany, 1272 Count of Penthièvre; ⚭ Blanche of Champagne ( † 1263 ), daughter of Theobald I, King of Navarre
  • Yolande (* 1218, † 1272 ), 1235 Countess of Penthièvre, 1260-66 Regent of La Marche; ⚭ 1235 Hugo XI. of Lusignan († 1260 ), Count of La Marche and Angoulême
  • Arthur (* 1220, † 1224 )

Alix was buried on November 24, 1221 alongside her mother at the Abbey of Notre -Dame-de -Villeneuve at Nantes.
