Alkersum
Alkersum (Danish: Alkersum, Frisian: Aalkersem ) is a municipality on the island of Foehr in the district of North Friesland Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography
Geographical location
Alkersum located in the center of the island of Foehr at the junction of Föhrer Geest to the spacious marshes of Föhrer North. The settlement structure core area, the village Alkersum, is located in the Eastern Township area and so on the Geest.

History
The first settlement of the current municipal area was in the Iron Age.
Policy
Municipal council
Since the local elections of 2013, the voters Alkersumer Community ( AWG) has eight out of nine seats in the municipal council, a seat has a single candidate.
Mayoress
For the election period 2013-2018 Ina Ketel was elected mayor. She takes over from Karl -Heinz Juhl, who directed the affairs of the community more than 30 years.
Economy
On the outskirts of Alkersum several commercial enterprises have settled. Also, tourism and equestrian centers in the municipality are important economic factors.
Culture
Since August 2009, there are in Alkersum the Museum Art of the West Coast. There artworks are displayed to the themes sea and coast of the North Sea area.
Personalities
The German - Swedish physician and founder of the company Ferring, Frederik Paulsen (1909-1997), died in Alkersum.
