Alkoxy group

In chemistry, an alkoxy group is a functional group based on a connected with an oxygen atom alkyl group ( see figure). Examples are the methoxy group with the chemical molecular formula -OCH3 (eg 1,2-dimethoxyethane or anisole ), or the ethoxy group with the chemical molecular formula - OCH2CH3 (eg phenetole ).

If the alkyl group of the alkoxy group is replaced by an aryl radical, an aryloxy group is obtained.
