All Things Must Pass is the third album by George Harrison and his first solo studio album after the dissolution of the Beatles. It was on 30 November 1970: published (USA November 27, 1970 ). In the U.S. and in the UK it reached number one; Germany in tenth place in the charts.

Album

Harrison released All Things Must Pass as his third and most successful solo album, and it was the first studio album in pop history with three LPs. Previously, the soundtrack Wonderwall Music ( 1968) and the electronically -oriented album Electronic Sound were (1969 ) published. The latter was not a classic rock album, but contained sound experiments. Both solo albums have received little attention and were commercially unsuccessful.

In All Things Must Pass many songs that accumulated over the years at Harrison and not found your way to a Beatles album appeared, had the title track of the album All Things Must Pass was a demo in October 1996 on the album ( Anthology 3) published. Further still partly unfinished songs were rehearsed during the recording sessions of Let It Be.

The recording sessions took place from May to October 1970. The pre-production of the album took place on 27 May 1970 in Abbey Road Studios instead, where George Harrison recorded acoustic demos, of which the following have not been released on the album or other recordings are remained: Window Window, Cosmic Empire Mother Divine, Nowhere to Go, Tell Me What Has Happened With You, Beautiful Girl and I Do not Want to Do It the latter two songs were re-recorded in the years to come, so Beautiful Girl appeared on the album Thirty Three & 1 /3, I Do not Want to Do It was released in April 1985 as a single in the U.S.. The bonus tracks Beware of Darkness and Let It Down from the re-release of the January 2001 come from the same sample session.

The producers are busy Harrison Phil Spector, who had also the last album the Beatles, Let It Be produced. Spector was both celebrated for his " Wall of Sound " and hostility. In All Things Must Pass, you can hear him at the height of his creative powers. In addition to drums and bass Spector used several, sometimes barely audible acoustic and electric guitars, three keyboards that play an emphasis on piano and organ, plus various strings and winds, " can truly swell into a wall " the sound. The guitarist was one next to Harrison 's friend Eric Clapton, among others, sat at the keyboard Billy Preston, who had already played on sessions for the Let It Be album and the Beatles played there, for example, the keyboard solo on the song Get Back. On many songs Ringo Starr played the drums.

When I'd Have You Anytime is a joint composition by George Harrison and Bob Dylan while If Not for You is a new Bob Dylan composition that the composer published in October 1970 on his album New Morning. Behind That Locked Door treated lyrically the withdrawal of Bob Dylan from the public after his motorcycle accident in July 1966. Hear Me Lord and My Sweet Lord are songs in prayer form. My Sweet Lord was the most successful single by Harrison and reached in many countries around the world # 1 on the charts. The following year, Harrison, however, was sued for My Sweet Lord similarities with the song He's So Fine by the Chiffons comprising of 1963. During the recording sessions were even more songs, some not fully recorded. Only I Live for You was released in January 2001 as a bonus track. The songs Down to the River, Whenever, Dehra Dun, Going Down to Golders Green and Om Hare Om ( Gopala Krishna ) have been published only on bootlegs and have not appeared legal. The third LP Apple Jam, consisting of instrumental songs, was recorded mainly in the Apple Studios and is musically clearly from the other songs from the album.

All Things Must Pass was a huge commercial and artistic success that Harrison could not repeat and where his future studio albums were measured.

The songs My Sweet Lord and All Things Must Pass already appeared in January 1970 on the album Encouraging Words by Billy Preston.

On Art of Dying played the then 19 -year-old Phil Collins percussion.

Decades due to legal disputes with various record companies could not be mentioned in writing in the Eric Clapton's presence on the album. This only happened on the remastered version of 2001.

The recordings for the album All Things Must Pass were simultaneously the debut of the new music group from Eric Clapton Derek and the Dominoes (Eric Clapton, Carl Radle, Jim Gordon and Bobby Whitlock ).

In June 2009, the compilation album Let It Roll appeared: Songs by George Harrison, at the i- Tunes download version of the Is not It a Pity Title ( demo version) is additionally included.

In December 2011, the CD George Harrison appeared: Living in the Material World as part of the Deluxe Edition Blu-ray/DVD the eponymous documentary about George Harrison. The CD contains the following tracks, which were recorded at All Things Must Pass during the rehearsal and recording sessions: My Sweet Lord (demo ) Run of the Mill (demo), I'd Have You Anytime (early take), Awaiting on You All (early take ) Behind That Locked Door ( demo) and All Things must Pass (demo). In April 2012, the album was released Early Takes: Volume 1 again with the same material.

Singles

My Sweet Lord

The first single My Sweet Lord / Is not It a Pity appeared in November 1970 in the U.S. ( Germany: January, 1971 ), reaching in both countries topped the charts. In the UK in January 1971 appeared the single My Sweet Lord / What Is Life, which also reached number one on the charts.

What Is Life

The second single, What Is Life / Apple Scruffs appeared in February 1971 and reached number ten in the U.S. and in Germany. Third place in the charts In the UK, the single was not released.

Re-release: My Sweet Lord

After the death of George Harrison (November 29, 2001), the CD single My Sweet Lord / Let It Down / My Sweet Lord 2000, in January 2002, again published, in turn, reached number one in the charts of Great Britain ( United States: Place 94, Germany: No. 74 ).

Reissues

The first publication in a double CD format took place in April 1987 in Europe and in the U.S. in February 1988 with no bonus tracks. In January 2001, the album in a newly remastered version as a double CD and triple LP at EMI Group has been released with five bonus tracks and new cover art. The bonus tracks are from the original recording sessions, but were musically enhanced and revised in 2000. The CD booklet includes a foreword by George Harrison. In January 2001, the single My Sweet Lord 2000 / All Things Must Pass was released in green vinyl in addition to the United States. As of October 2007, the album All Things Must Pass is with the added bonus video All Things Must Pass as a digital download on iTunes - available EPK, which describes the evolution of the re-release of 2001 from the perspective of George Harrison.
