Allaire, Morbihan

Allaire ( Gallo Alaèr, Alaer Breton ) is a commune with 3674 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region.

The municipality is the capital of the canton in the arrondissement of Vannes Allaire.

Geography

Allaire is 45 kilometers from Vannes and 90 kilometers from Lorient at an altitude of between one and 88 m above the sea. The Vilaine forms the southern boundary of the municipality.

Neighboring communities are Saint- Perreux in the Northeast, Saint- Jean-la -Poterie in the east, Rieux in the Southeast, Saint- Dolay in the south, Béganne the southwest, Saint -Gorgon in the west and Saint- Jacut -les-Pins in the northwest.

Allaire was first mentioned in the year 878 as Alair ( 11th century Halaer, 1378: Aller, 1460: Aloir, 1516: Allair ).
