Allan Arbus

Allan Arbus (* February 15, 1918 in New York City, † April 19, 2013 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actor and photographer.

Life

Allan Arbus worked as a photographer in New York City. There he ran from 1946, a publicity photo studio with his wife Diane, who he married in 1941 and with whom he had two children. The two had met when Arbus worked in the clothing store of Diane's father. Through him, Diane came to photography, Allan Arbus herself had learned while photographing of military service. In 1959 the couple divorced, Diane made ​​a career as a photographer, while Allan turned to the spectacle. In 1961 he had his first role of the Doctor in the musical film Hey, Let's Twist. He became famous for the role of the military psychiatrist Major Sidney Freedman on the television series MASH, in which he appeared in 12 episodes. During this time he also played major roles in movies such as as a Mafioso in Coffy - the cat (1973). In addition to other smaller movie roles like in Damien - Omen II, he had also repeatedly guest roles in TV series such as Hawaii Five-O, Quincy, Matlock, and Hunter.

In the film Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus Arbus was played by Ty Burrell. 1977 Arbus married the actress Mariclare Costello.
