Allan Clarke (footballer born 1946)

Allan John Clarke ( born July 31, 1946 in Short Heath ) is a former English footballer. For years he played at Leeds United, with whom he attended in England, but also an international sensation.

Playing career

In the club

Clarke began his career as a boy of sixteen at FC Walsall. In 1966 he moved to FC Fulham, Leicester City before he undertook in 1968. The highlight was reaching the FA Cup final in 1969, which was, however, lost to Manchester City.

A short time later, Clarke moved for 165,000 pounds to Leeds United, his most successful station as a professional. With the crew were occupied front seats regularly, several times even the runner-up. However, it took until 1974 before Clarke and his colleagues celebrated the championship. Five points clear of runners-up Liverpool were at the end to book.

In 1971, Clarke and his team the final of the exhibition Cup against Juventus, which was decided by the away goals rule in favor of Leeds. After he had not yet met in the first leg 2-2 draw, he scored in the second leg, which ended 1-1, 1-0 ahead.

After 1970, the FA Cup final against Chelsea has surprisingly lost, Clarke's team reached two years later, again in the final. This time, he scored the only goal of the game, was beaten in the Arsenal.

National

In 1970, he was - without having previously played one international match - in the squad of England for the World Cup 1970. He made his debut in the opening game against Czechoslovakia. Overall, he played 19 games for his country.

Coaching career

After Clarke in 1978 drew upon a cruciate ligament injury, his contract was not renewed at Leeds United. He joined as player-coach for FC Barnsley, with which he ascended into the Second Division in 1979. Then his old employer Leeds United he began recruiting in September 1980. However, the success was in 1982 and was relegated to the club. Clarke was then succeeded by his former team-mate Eddie Gray.

1983/84 he trained Scunthorpe United, in 1985 he returned to Barnsley FC. After initial successes, he was released in November 1989, as the club was again at end of table. In the spring of 1990 he went to Lincoln City, where he was released after six months.

Mid -90s, Clarke tried as host of a football show on the private broadcaster ITV Digital. Today Clarke lives with family near Glasgow.
