Allan Marquand

Allan Marquand (* 1853, † 1924) taught only logic and later art history at Princeton University. In addition to art history, he studied theology and philosophy.

Between 1874 and 1881 - a more precise dating is not possible - Allan Marquand developed a mechanical logical machine ( Photo at the Firestone Library, Princeton ) and 1885, he proposed to build an electrical logic machine. While it is unknown or even questionable whether he could realize his electrical machine, but the idea to implement logical operations by electrical circuits seems zuzukommen him, even if he got the suggestion to do so by his teacher, the philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce, is likely to have.
