Allan James McGregor ( born January 31, 1982 in Edinburgh) is a Scottish footballer who plays for Hull City in the Premier League on the position of the goalkeeper.

Club career

Allan McGregor has been committed by the Rangers as a goalkeeper talent in the summer of 1998. In 2001 he received a professional contract for the first team, where he was for three years, replacement of Stefan Klos. In the following two seasons McGregor was loaned to FC St. Johnstone and Dunfermline Athletic, where he gained his first experience as a goalkeeper. In 2006 he returned to the Rangers and extended his contract even though he had little prospect of a regular place. But the other two goalkeeper Lionel Letizi and Stefan Klos injured in the 2006/07 season, so McGregor came to many applications in which he always knew to convince. During this time, he also gained first international experience in the UEFA Cup matches against Molde FK, which both ended without a goal for the Rangers. In September 2006, he was voted player of the month in the Scottish Premier League.

After returning from Letizi McGregor sat first again on the bench, but the fans were calling him vehemently as the first goalkeeper to use. Despite these claims Paul Le Guen stuck to Letizi until it hurt again. After the 2006/ 07 season McGregor was elected by his teammates to player of the year. The following season, the goalkeeper won the Rangers the national cup and the League Cup a year later again the double with a league and cup.

National

With the inauguration of Alex McLeish as manager of Scotland, the first nomination McGregor followed in January 2007. His debut he graduated on 30 May 2007 in the game against Austria. Then McGregor was always the second goalkeeper behind Craig Gordon. After the 3-0 defeat against the Netherlands on 28 March 2009, the goalkeeper was involved along with his teammates and national team captain Barry Ferguson in a drinking spree at the hotel. Because of this escapade both players were banned for the next game against Iceland on the whistle. There, however, they fell by obscene gestures before the game continues to be negative. On April 4, the Scottish Football Association announced therefore that McGregor and Ferguson will no longer play for the Bravehearts. Later this decision, however, was withdrawn.
