Allan Rae (composer)

Allan Rae ( born July 3, 1942 in Blairmore ) is a Canadian composer and music educator.

After three years as a trumpet player in a military band in Calgary Rae studied composition and arranging at Berklee College of Music in Boston. From 1966 to 1970 he worked as a composer and conductor for radio and television CBC Calgary. Then he studied until 1973 electronic music at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto with Samuel Dolin. He taught for a year at the Royal Conservatory, then returned to Calgary.

Rae has composed chamber music, concertos and symphonies, also several musicals and theater music. In 1985 he was Composer in Residence at the Alberta Theatre Projects. He is a member of the Canadian League of Composers and an associate of the Canadian Music Centre.
