Sulfur beetle ( Cteniopus flavus )

The plants beetle ( Alleculinae ) are a subfamily of darkling beetles ( Tenebrionidae ).

Features

The beetles are four to 14 millimeters long and are usually black, brown or yellow. A few species are metallic and shiny. You have longitudinally grooved elytra and large eyes. The sensors are elfgliedrig, long and turned in front of the eyes and the cheeks. The pronotum is usually wider than long and often semi-circular front. The jaws are combed or serrated on the inside.

Way of life

The ways of life between the individual species are very different. Some are active at night, while the other heat and sun are looking for. The beetles live in tree sponges, in verpilztem wood, under loose bark, on flowers and trees. They eat pollen. The females lay their eggs either in wood cracks or openings that were created by other residents wood, or in the ground. The larvae live in tree sponges or in rotten wood ( Alleculinae ), where they feed on wood myzeldurchsetztem. Ground-dwelling larvae ( Omophilinae ) live from plant debris, mold and also of living root tissue. After two to three years, the larvae pupate in a chamber.

System

The plants beetles were formerly regarded as a separate family, and later found as a family to the black beetles. Worldwide there are about 2,600 species known in Europe about 150 species were recorded in Central Europe are about 30 species in eleven genera to be found.
