Allen County (Kentucky)

The Allen County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Scottsville, which was named after Governor Charles Scott. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in southern Kentucky, is bordered to the south by the State of Tennessee and has an area of 912 square kilometers, of which 15 square kilometers are water surface.

In the east, the County of Barren River Lake is limited, a reservoir of the Barren River.

History

The Allen County was formed on January 11, 1815 from former parts of the Barren County and Warren County. It was named after John Allen (1771-1813), who was killed at the Battle of River Raisin of the British -American War in 1813.

A fire destroyed the courthouse on October 2, 1902 many documents.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Allen County 19,956 people in 7,099 households. The population density was 22.2 inhabitants per square kilometer.
