Allen Hobbs

Allen Hobbs ( born July 30, 1899 in Lowell, Massachusetts, † November 23, 1960 in Bethesda, Maryland) was an American naval officer. In the years 1944 and 1945, he was military governor of American Samoa.

Career

Allen Hobbs was the grandson of Charles Herbert Allen (1848-1934), congressman for Massachusetts and Governor of Puerto Rico was. He served in the U.S. Navy, where he rose to become captain. Hobbs worked for the Water Survey in Suitland (Maryland). Between February 8, 1944, and January 27, 1945, he was during World War II as the successor of John Gould Moyer Governor of American Samoa. On August 30, 1948, he was appointed Head of the waters surveying the Navy. He died on 23 November 1960 at the Naval Hospital in Bethesda.
