Allen I. Olson

Allen Ingvar Olson ( born November 5, 1938 in Rolla, North Dakota) is an American politician. He was between 1981 and 1984 the 28th Governor of the State of North Dakota.

Early years and political rise

After schooling Allen Olson graduated from the University of North Dakota law. In 1963 he joined the U.S. Army, where he worked as a military lawyer. He was first in Washington, D.C. and then stationed in Munich. After his return to civilian life he worked briefly for a government committee in North Dakota, before he joined a large law firm in 1969. Between 1972 and 1980 he was Attorney General of North Dakota, and was then selected as the candidate of the Republican Party as the new governor of his state.

Governor of North Dakota

Olson began his four -year term on January 6, 1981. As Governor, he had to deal with a suit of the interest group of the disabled against the State of North Dakota. He also launched an initiative against drunk road users. Under Olson earned the state parts of the Cross Ranch, which was established to mark the centenary of North Dakota in 1989 as a new State Park. In the government was set up with the " Department of Human Services ," a new ministry.

After the end of his tenure, Olson has worked as a lawyer again. In 1987 he was co-owner of a company in New Hope ( Minnesota). In 2002 he was appointed by President George W. Bush in an international commission treated the intergovernmental issues between Canada and the United States.
