Allèves

Allèves is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Allèves is located on 636 m above sea level. M., about 17 km south of the town of Annecy (air line). The mountain village is located on an exposed south-facing slope in the French Alps, in the cluse de Bange, a ravine in which the Chéran breaks through the western edge of the massif of the chain bauges.

The area of ​​8.81 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Alps. The southwestern boundary runs along the Chéran. This breaks the anticline of Semnoz in the North and Montagne de Bange in the south ( border chain of the Wallows ) in a deep characteristic Klus. History

The territory of Allèves was inhabited in prehistoric times. In the Grotte de Banges remains were found from the Bronze Age. Is first mentioned in 1356 as de Allèves Allevis; from 1696 the name Alevoz is preserved. The place name probably derives from the word alevier, the customary name for the stone pine.

Attractions

The village church of Saint -Blaise in 1870 rebuilt in the Gothic Revival style, the old bell tower was maintained in 1635. Ruins of the Château du Cengle are obtained.

Population

With 360 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Allèves one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region.
