History

The impetus for establishing the alliance 's mission in 1889 was the Swedish-American evangelist Fredrik Franson ( 1872-1908 ). Franson traveled the world from Europe to China, India and Japan to New Zealand and Australia and held so-called revival meetings, which describe not only faith, but was called for a decision for Christ. He preached in 40 countries in front of thousands of people. 14 missions and community frets lead their origin back to Franson.

His visit to Germany, leaving traces. A Berliner Zeitung wrote: The Franson and Olson which are not dull to convert Berlin, the sinful city!. Influenced by Hudson Taylor, founder of the then British China Inland Mission, he tried to win missionaries to China. Taylor prayed for missionaries for China in 1000. Franson wanted to give him the first 100. Together with the Wuppertal businessman Carl Polnick he founded a mission committee.

Shortly after the establishment of this committee came forward a number of young men and women for service in China. In the fall of 1890 traveled Josef Bender, Painter from Frankfurt am Main, Elisabeth Bäumer, housemaid from Wuppertal, and Auguste Schnütgen, daughter of a merchant family in Barmen, with little luggage as the first missionaries Alliance Mission from. This outraged the native religious circles for various reasons - some of them:

  • The committee belonged to no theologian.
  • The mission sent without financial security.
  • A woman as a missionary.

Over 100 missionaries were sent to China by the end of the Second World War.
