Allied Forces Northern Europe

The Allied Forces Northern Europe ( AFNORTH, German: Allied Forces North Europe ) was a command area of the NATO Northern Europe with headquarters in Oslo and from 1954 to 1994 in Kolsås in Bærum, Norway.

History

AFNORTH in 1952 erected. ( AFNORTHWEST Allied Forces Central Europe West ) integrates After the end of the Cold War was AFNORTH 1994 in the new command area Allied Forces Northwestern Europe.

The responsibilities (area of responsibility ) of Allied Forces Northern Europe were the countries Denmark and Norway, as well as the states of Hamburg and Schleswig -Holstein. This also included the areas of the North Sea, Skagerrak, Kattegat and the Baltic Sea and Belts and the Sound.

The commanders were last officers in the rank of General or Admiral of the United Kingdom.

With the acronym AFNORTH a command authority of NATO from 2000 to 2004 referred to the Regional Command, Allied Forces North Europe, the later Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum.
