The Sicilian honey garlic ( Allium siculum Ucria, Syn. Nectaroscordum siculum ( Ucria ) Lindl, formerly Trigonea sicula, Nothoscordum siculum ), Sicilian sham leeks or Bulgarian jewelry leek is a species of the genus Nectaroscordum of the genus Allium (Allium ) in the subfamily Garlic Family ( Allioideae ).

Features

The Sicilian Honey leek is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches the heights of growth from 50 to 125 centimeters. This Geophyt forms onions as outlasting. The leaves are rinnig and measure 30 to 40 (60 ) × 1-3 ( 5) centimeters.

The 10 to 30 flowers are bell-shaped, hanging and their stems are of unequal length. The outer tepals are ovoid, five annoying and measure 10 to 12 ( 17) x about 8 mm, the inner tepals are einnervig and measure 15 × 9.5 mm. The perianth is dull purple and greenish at the base. The fruit capsule is upright.

The flowering period is in May after the leaves have died

Occurrence

Allium siculum is native to the Crimea, in the western Anatolia, in southern France, Corsica, and Italy to Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany and Basilicata. Here is this kind can be found in beech forests at altitudes of 400 to 1000 meters.

Use

The Sicilian Honey leek is sometimes used as an ornamental plant in rebates. It should not be over-fertilized. It spreads through bulbils.
