Allonnes (Sarthe)

Allonnes is a town with 11,195 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in France. It is located seven kilometers south-west of Le Mans on the right bank of the Sarthe. The city belongs to the metropolitan area Le Mans in Sarthe.

Demographics

1961, the place was still a larger village with only 1400 inhabitants. With the implementation of a housing program, the population temporarily increased to almost 16,000. In 2008, there were then only a little more than 11,000 inhabitants.

Policy

Allonnes is a working class town. The City Council consists of 33 members. Since the last election in 2008, the majority of 28 seats is the list of the united left, consisting of Communists, Socialists, Greens and a local civil list, while the opposition only five aldermen provides that belong to all of the UMP. Chairman of the City Council is the Mayor. This is since 2008 Gilles Leproust who, like his predecessor Yvon Luby ( term 1977-2008 ) of the French Communist Party (PCF ) is a member.

Attractions

" La tour aux fées " ( Feenturm ); it is the remains of a temple of the Gallo -Roman period, which was dedicated to the Gallic god Mars Mullo. Archaeological findings show, however, that the place was used as early as the 4th century BC for ritual acts.

Twinning

A twinning consists in the German state of Lower Saxony with Delmenhorst since 1976. In addition, there are partnerships with Sangha in Mali and San Juan de Cinco Pinos in northeastern Nicaragua.
