Allonzier-la-Caille

Allonzier -la- Caille is a town with 1723 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Haute -Savoie in southeastern France.

Geographical Location

Allonzier is situated on a gently sloping ridge on the eastern edge of the Alps. A port on the French motorway A40 is in close proximity. About this highway you will reach the town of Annecy in the south 15 kilometers away. Geneva in the north can be reached via 50 km highway and motorway.

Culture and sights

Two kilometers from the city spans adjacent a pair of road bridges over the deeply incised Caille Gorge. The old, opened on July 11, 1839 suspension bridge Pont de la Caille now serves as a pedestrian bridge and as an attraction for tourists who want to enjoy 147 feet above the bed of the stream Les Usses the airy height. It is also called Pont Charles -Albert, named after Charles Albert of Savoy, King of Sardinia, who opened the bridge in person.
