Alloplectus

Alloplectus is a plant genus of the family of Gesneriad ( Gesneriaceae ). The five species are found only in the Neotropics.

Dissemination

This species occurs only in the Neotropics. The types are available from Costa Rica to the Colombian Andes in northern Ecuador and Peru. The species grow at high elevations (rarely to 500 ) usually 2,000 to 3,500 meters.

Description

Alloplectus species grow as epiphytes subshrubs. Most climbing stems have a round or square cross-section. The oppositely arranged leaves are continually divided into petiole and leaf blade. The simple leaf blades are elliptic to oval with smooth edges or sawed.

The flowers appear singly in the leaf axils up to third zymösen together in inflorescences. There are cover sheets available. The hermaphrodite, zygomorphic flowers are fünfzählig. The five nearly free, hairy sepals are green to color with smooth to serrated edge. The five yellow or red petals are fused Roehrig or plate- shaped. The four stamens are related more or less. The nectar gland is usually bilobed. The upper permanent ovary is hairy.

Are formed bivalve, fleshy fruit capsules, which are surrounded by the calyx and contain many tiny seeds.

Species and native

Alloplectus has long been a collecting pot not closely related species, so I was not monophyletic. After the revision of J. L. Clark ( Clark 2005, 2006 and Clark et al. 2006) contains the genus only five species. The other formerly about 140 species are now included in, for example the genera Crantzia, Glossoloma and Drymonia.
