Founded in 1935 the airport Almaty ( Kazakh: Халықаралық Алматы Әуежайы, Russian: Международный Аэропорт Алматы ) ( IATA: ALA, ICAO: UAAA ) is with 3.665 million passengers ( 2007), the largest airport of the Asian country of Kazakhstan and is about 18 kilometers from the former capital Almaty away. Here, both national and international air traffic takes place. 2011 around four million passengers ( 12 % over 2010 ).

The airport has two runways and start a terminal. Almaty is one of two aviation hubs for the national airline Air Astana, formerly also the predecessor of Air Kazakhstan.
