Riesenblättriges Arrow Sheet ( Alocasia macrorrhizos )

The arrow leaves or Alokasien ( Alocasia ) are a genus of flowering plants in the family of Araceae ( Araceae ). A few species and hybrids are used as carbohydrates producing plants and ornamentals.

Description

Alocasia species are large evergreen, perennial herbaceous plants. Often upright rhizomes are present and usually is a large above-ground " root " exists where the leaves are spirally arranged. The simple leaves are stalked. The leaves of the giant taro ( Alocasia macrorrhizos ) are among the largest non- compound leaves of all plants.

The Alocasia species are monoecious getrenntgeschlechtig ( monoecious ). As is customary in the arum family consists of the inflorescence from the inflorescence stem, a bract ( spathe ) and the piston ( spadix ). In the flask there is a female sterile and male section. Are formed berries.

Use

Is used as a food of the giant taro ( Alocasia macrorrhizos ). It will be used primarily the starchy tubers. They are cooked like potatoes. They are rich in minerals, vitamins A, B and C.

Some species and varieties are also used as ornamental plants. Sanders Arrow Sheet ( Alocasia sanderiana ) is a houseplant.

1832 presented Heinrich Wilhelm Schott, the section Colocasia sect. Alocasia Schott & in finite: Meletemata Botanica, 18. The rank of a genus Alocasia she received in 1839 by George Don Jr. in Hortus Britannicus, p 631 type species is Alocasia cucullata ( Lour. ) G.Don. Synonyms for Alocasia (Schott) G.Don are: Ensolenanthe Schott, Panzhuyuia ZYZhu, Schizocasia Schott ex Engler, Xenophya Schott. The genus Alocasia belongs to the tribe Colocasieae in the subfamily Aroideae within the family of Araceae.
