Alois Vogl

Alois Vogl ( born September 15, 1972 in Neukirchen beim Heiligenblut, Bavarian Forest ) is a former German ski racer. He was slalom specialist and went on to start his career and giant slalom. In the World Cup he could win a race, also he was seven times German champion.

Biography

Vogl won on January 16, 1994 with the tenth place in the Hahnenkamm slalom in Kitzbuehel first points in the World Cup. During several years succeeded hardly ever to surpass this result. He was regarded as an eternal talent of the German Ski Association. Good workouts he could - due to the high starting numbers - rarely implemented in the competition. Injury and material problems did the rest.

In between fell Vogl even from the conveyor squad and had to finance itself. But the former Germany coach, the Austrian Werner Margreiter further in 2004 he and Max Rauffer fixed. Both " Oldies " of the Association proved due to the unconventional methods of motivation, such as the 10,000 - euro deposit to reach the first starter field, finally their strengths. Already with his third place in the slalom in Flachau in December 2004 Vogl had put his emerging form of proof and meets the World Cup standard.

In the Lauberhorn in Wengen slalom he reached on 9 January 2005 the first slalom win for the DSV for 14 years. In icy slopes and difficult conditions, he graduated from there two flawless runs and let the Croats Ivica Kostelic and the Austrian Benjamin Raich behind. However, he also benefited from the disqualification of the original leading Italian Giorgio Rocca due to a Torfehlers. At the 2005 World Championships in Bormio Vogl could not intervene in the competition scene, contrary to his expectations, as a persistent inflammation of the iris, which he had contracted in the game with his 2002 -born daughter Lena, his start prevented. At the World Cup finals in 2004/05 in Lenzerheide Vogl landed behind Mario Matt in second place. The Slalom World Cup, he finished with 310 points in fifth place in the overall World Cup, it was enough for 27th place its fifth and final podium place he reached on 27 January 2007, third place in the first of two slalom in Kitzbuehel.

On 21 October 2008 Vogl announced his retirement from ski racing. This decision, he was in a stubborn bowel disease and a resulting large training residue.
