Aloja, Latvia

Aloja ( German: Allendorf ) is a small town in northern Latvia, and the center of the administrative unit of the same name.

History

The name is Liv Aloja origin. The place was first mentioned in writing in 1449, when the goods Allenberg and Stakenberg came into possession of a Fabian Unger. This was from the Archdiocese of Riga permission to found a parish. 1534 was a wooden Lutheran church to the estate. This was replaced in 1776 by ​​a stone. The place consisted in 1903 of only two churches, two community schools, a restaurant, a pharmacy, a doctorate and a department store. After the revolution of 1905, the city grew slowly and got 1992, the city rights.
