Alopecosa

Alopecosa fabrilis (females )

Alopecosa is a genus of the family of wolf spiders ( Lycosidae ). Most Alopecosa species are about one to two centimeters in size and therefore belong in Central Europe to the big wolf spiders.

In Germany and adjacent areas about 15 species of the genus Alopecosa occur. They usually prefer open, warm and generally dry habitats. They are found in about dunes, sandy heaths or grasslands. Many of these spiders have become rare due to the destruction and threat to their habitats and are on the Red List.
