Alopen (c. 600 in Syria; † in China, Chinese: pinyin阿罗本: Āluóběn, and in Chinese景净pinyin: jǐng Jing ) is considered the first Christian missionary in China. The name is somewhat uncertain; maybe it is the transmission of the Syrian " Rabban " ( monk) or a transfer of "Abraham". Not much is known about the origin of this Nestorian bishop from Syria. In appearance, he will not be in China when he arrives 635 during the Tang Dynasty in Chang'an. He led a group of a dozen monks from Persia. Alopen meets in China favorable conditions, there was religious tolerance, the Chinese emperor called all religions welcome, but remains a convinced Buddhist. Under the second Tang emperor, Taizong, flowers on the community and is politically independent of the Christian West. This is an impressive 781 in the Nestorian Monument, which is being built near Chang'an, documented.

When the Tang dynasty comes to an end, will lead to less religious tolerance; Christians, Manichaeans and Muslims who have established themselves, disappear. By the year 900 the last remnants of the Nestorian Church in China have disappeared, but diving from 1260 to 1368 in western China and Mongolia back on.

Alopens work was for the development of Chinese and Mongolian Christians of utmost importance.

In his luggage he had 530 Christian texts in Syriac, which he translated successively.
