Alpen, Germany

The community of Alpine is located on the Lower Rhine in the northwest of the federal state of North Rhine -Westphalia and is a kreisangehorige community of Wesel in the district of Dusseldorf. She is a member of the Euregio Rhine - Waal.

Geography

Spatial location

The community of Alpine is located in the Lower Rhine plain, between Xanten (10 km) and Rheinberg (7 km ) and 11 km southwest of the county town of Wesel. In the northwestern area contains parts of the nature reserve Grenzdyck.

The community of Alpine divided into four districts: Alpine, Bönninghardt, Menzelen and Veen.

The municipality is bordered to the north by the Alps town of Xanten, on the east by the cities of Wesel and Rheinberg, on the south by the town of Kamp -Lintfort and the community Issum in the Kleve district and in the west on the community of Sonsbeck.

History

The most important reference for the early Middle Ages inside the Alps is the burial ground of Rill. But even in Alps themselves, just north of the village, early medieval graves from the second half of the 7th century AD were recovered.

Alpine 1074 was mentioned for the first time in a document, but was possibly in the 7th century AD to the possession of the Archbishop of Cologne. Until about 1330 it was from the 1084 first mentioned gender " of the Alps" dominated. From 1330 to 1422 the Electoral Cologne Reeves owned the place, which then also called themselves by Alps. The town received municipal rights from 1330 and was walled; later Alps got the right of coinage. Until 1602, the rule Alps remained in the possession of the Counts of Neuenahr and then fell until the French occupation ( 1794-1814 ) in the possession of the Counts of Bentheim.

The existing since the beginning of the French Jewish community used a time from 1801 mentioned synagogue until its destruction in 1938. Grave in the Jewish cemetery 56 stones ( Mazewot ) from the period 1792 to 1936 are obtained.

The Evangelical church is the oldest Protestant parish church in Germany.

Castle Alps

The Castle of Alps, a moth with possibly two baileys, was first documented in 1200. Inhabited the castle was still up in the 18th century. Made uninhabitable by an earthquake in 1758, the building eventually fell apart. 1809, the moth was removed and the material to build a landscaped under French occupation, Chausseestraße (castle road ) is used. This road crosses the western part of the moth hill.

The original church of St. Ulrich is first mentioned in 1300 in Liber Valoris, but may originate because of Patroziniums from the 11th century. She was lying in the middle ages to the west out of town before the " Kirchtor ". In a war it was destroyed in 1602, the new parish church was erected in 1650 within the city.

Territorial reform

Alps was in pre-revolutionary time for Electoral Cologne office Rheinberg, which was added to the Kingdom of Prussia in 1815, among others at the Vienna Congress. Then Alps came in the wake of the Prussian administrative organization on April 23, 1816 District Rheinberg than one of 29 districts of the province of Jülich -Cleves -Berg, the later Rhine Province, but was already in 1823 united with the county funds. The community of Alpine has a volunteer fire department with about 100 members and 14 emergency vehicles, which are housed at the locations Alps, Menzelen and Veen. Personalities

  • The Princess Amalia, Countess Palatine of the Rhine, Duchess in Bavaria, née Countess Neuenahr and Limburg, woman Alps, etc., was born in 1539 at the castle in the Alps and also died there on 10 April 1602.
