Alphington (Victoria)

Alphington is a district in the northeast of the Australian city of Melbourne. It is located about 7 km from the city center. Alphington is bordered to the south by the Yarra River, on the east by the Darebin Creek.

History

Alphington is one of the oldest parts of Melbourne. In the area of ​​today's Alphington in the 1840s was a wooden bridge over the Darebin Creek and a hotel. 1858 a post office was opened. In 1864 the bridge was replaced by a stone bridge.

Alphington is named after an eponymous district of the English city of Exeter.
